Number one solar region

Vorarlberg is still Europe's number one solar region according to a study carried out by the Vorarlberg Energy Institute. The total collector surface in Vorarlberg is around 165,000 square metres, almost half a square metre per inhabitant. In comparison: the Austrian average is 0.19 square metres per inhabitant. The Head of the Provincial Government, Herbert Sausgruber, and the Environmental Minister, Erich Schwärzler, would like to thank the communities for their commitment in the field of renewable energy. The energy concept for the province has ambitious targets according to Sausgruber: "The proportion of renewable energy sources – not including hydroelectric power – is to be increased by 60 %".The provincial government is providing a whole range of supports for this. Subsidies are being granted for energy saving measures in home construction, the installation of solar collectors and the construction of energy-saving houses.
