Exemplary approach in environmental protection

Vorarlberg is counting on information, dialogue and cooperation in the implementation of the  NATURA 2000 targets. "Environmental protection based on a handshake" is the motto, according to environmental representative, Erich Schwärzler. A characteristic feature of the  Vorarlberg approach is that it was established jointly with the land owners, farmers, users and environmentalists concerned. Measures are taken primarily on the basis of agreement and only then on the basis of laws or ordinances. A year ago Vorarlberg was the first state to pass promotion guidelines for the preservation of the forest in the NATURA 2000 regions, thus creating an incentive for forest owners. Schwärzler is particularly happy about the praise from the environmental protection council which described the Vorarlberg approach for the implementation of  NATURA 2000 as exemplary.
